We re-recorded the vocals to Cheap and Spiteful last Friday, then mixed them down yesterday. It's now sounding way more polished - check it out on the website, or Myspace... (Links below)

Subject:Kabarette Obscura update...
Posted by:m0rbid_princess.
Time:2:10 am.
Things are making swift progress with the band. Now I have net access again.

Kabarette Obscura now has a Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/kabaretteobscuracom

I also have my own Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/x_divine_x so feel free to add me if you have one too.

The website has been updated with a remastered Cheap and Spiteful, and a couple of new tracks - Scorned and Disco Bitch - which are work in progresses. In the downloads section (and on Myspace) you can grab taster instrumental mp3s. They have no vocals on them as yet but have a listen anyway.

Scorned is a very operatic gothic-esque electro-track, complete with pipe organs, thunder and a breakbeat chorus.

Disco Bitch is a darker seedier electro in the style of Ultra era Depeche Mode.

We have a recording session on Friday, so hopefully more completed tracks will follow soon.

well i guess you peeps should be updated on stuff.

there have been no developments to the kabarette obscura website recently as divine's internet has been down. however, it has now returned, and our track "hubris" is available for download off the downloads section. give it a spin, in my opinion it's our best track so far. lyrics to all complete songs are also up on a seperate link on the downloads page, so we can expect you all to be singing along at our first gig!

now while im on the subject of first gigs, i seem to remember we envisioned live shows in "early 2006" when we first started up. we seem to have underestimated somewhat how long it would take for us to get a live set together - and we're about to start work on it very soon, so it shouldn't be too long now. we definitely have enough material, enough to fill an album with once it's all recorded, let alone a live set. so yeah, it won't be long.

that's all. enjoy the new mp3 :) and incase you forgot, Here's a link to the website

Subject:Cock up!

Time:11:17 am.

Due to a mistake by the billing department of our webhost, which tried to charge $500 instead of $30 for our hosting, our website is down for the time being. Our hosts and I are working to restore normal service as soon as possible but their computer is being somewhat recalcitrant - hopefully this should be fixed soon.

Guess it's time for an update.

The website has been revamped, with a new logo and a little new content. The reaction to the revised Cheap and Spiteful has been very positive. We've recorded vocals to another track now, so we will release that as our last mp3 from this album on the website at some point soon - if you want to hear the others you'll have to come and see us live, or buy the album ;) - If I can figure out a way to stream it I might organise that though...

Cheap and Spiteful rose up to number 43 in the Soundclick charts before falling back down again, which is very pleasing.

Work continues, so keep checking for updates...

Happy Halloween, everyone - and don't forget to put your clocks back tonight. An extra hour in bed can't be bad can it? ;)

Subject:Update on Website, Soundclick etc
Posted by:m0rbid_princess.
Time:3:39 am.
Hey everyone...

Following on from what zeibura_kathau said earlier, I have revamped the website a little, updated the news section, changed the font size and rewritten a few things on the About Us page... but, more substantially, I have added the new mix of Cheap and Spiteful for you to download. Bear in mind this mp3 is still using the Guide Vocals as Sammm has yet to record vocals for the new mix, so it may seem a little uneven in places but you should get the idea... You can choose which mix you would like to download - Minimalist or Album from the Downloads page.

A reminder for those who haven't yet seen the site: kabaretteobscura.com

More good news: Kabarette Obscura has broken the Top 100 on Soundclick in the Goth Rock subgenre (Best fit genre, not really perfect but close enough)! Considering we have been published there less than a month, and we are using a rough bedroom mix, I am pretty pleased with this... Can we reach the Top 50? Watch this space...

Go and check out our page: here!

You can vote if we are hot or not - beware, though, the mp3 streams from there slightly slower than it is meant to, as it is encoded at 48khz rather than 44.1khz as Soundclick expects - it makes for an interesting listen regardless.

Subject:an update on what to expect, response to feedback etc.

*draws attention to self*

first of all, i would like to thank all of you for your comments on cheap and spiteful. we are pleased with what we've done, and the fact that others have enjoyed it (upto and including warren ellis!) BUT...

the catch is that there is nothing weimar era about it, and we are not experimental enough. therefore, you can expect a new version of the song to be up on the website soon-ish. we're getting back to work on it later this week. the levels (regarding vocals) will also be sorted. so, this is by no means the end of this song's development.

so in the coming weeks, expect a newer, better, weirder and more weimar era related version to go up onto the site, followed by more mp3's of other song's we've been producing. we will now be working harder on touching up our existing songs with true experimentalist passion, so our first live performance may be set back by longer than we initially thought. that time will definitely come, but "some things in life you have to wait for"...

Subject:Update on Progress
Posted by:m0rbid_princess.
Time:10:48 pm.
Since it's been a while, I thought I should update on where we are currently. Much progress has been made musically in the past few months. We now have 7 original tracks ready for rehearsal:

Cheap and Spiteful
Commercial Whore
Style Over Substance
Disco Bitch
Your Country Needs You
The Circus Came to Town

We start recording lyrics on Friday, so an mp3 or two may appear on the website before long - watch this space... We plan to discuss our photoshoot on Friday too, and hopefully that should be happening within the next month. Again, watch this space...

Mood: artistic.
Guess it's time for an update...

We currently have 5 original tracks more or less ready for recording, plus a couple of other interesting diversions that we shall keep to ourselves until our first gig. The songs are pretty eclectic, and range from a very fast and angry electro song to a song best described as a road accident involving a travelling fair, a band of gypsies and some synthesisers via electro breakbeat and tounge-in-cheek electro-rock...

We have our first recording session on Thursday, and we hope to polish off two complete tracks, ready for the vocal recordings in a couple of weeks.

Once we have the vocals recorded as well, we will start publishing taste mp3s on our website so watch this space...

We're all quite impressed at the speed things are progressing. We are still on target for our first public appearance in February/March 2006...

More news as it happens - don't touch that dial ;)

Updated the website a little - now has more structure and style. Took me ages to get the html tables right but I think they are ok.

EDIT: They are not OK - although they work fine in Mozilla, in IExplore they come out stretched as I've just realised viewing it from work... *mumble mumble* non-complient browsers *mumble mumble*

Comments and suggestions welcome...

Work has started on our second original track - Commercial Whore.

This one is looking set to be our best song to date - pounding, memorable and dancey.

Only another 6 or 7 to go and we'll have a set together. We're looking to start recording full mixes starting next week, when our singer is back from a well earned break so watch the website for mp3s...

Time:11:09 pm.
We now have a web address:

It just has a main page and an 'about us' page at the moment, with links to our forum and Yahoo! group but check it out anyway...

Will update with more info once we have some content.

Our first original song is nearing completion - Cheap and Spiteful - and I am currently writing lyrics.

EDIT: Lyrics are done! Just the synth lines that need writing now...

We are Kabarette Obscura, a 3-piece Electro-Cabaret act, looking to combine traditional Cabaret with modern electro-sleaze, to create Weimar-Era Cabaret for the digital age.

We are looking to combine cabaret performance and character with pounding electronica and narrative lyrics. Imagine Tom Waits and Ute Lemper genespliced with Aphex Twin. I realise how overambitious that may sound - I guess time will tell whether I my mouth is writing cheques my talent can't cash...

We have a website here which we will mainly be using to keep our work-in-progress in one place we can all access easily, and to trade ideas between rehearsals. Once the project is fully up and running, this will be turned into a mailing list/info page for the band, so feel free to sign up now if you want to. We intend to spend the next 4 or 5 months solidly preparing the musical and performance aspects, ready to launch in 2006.

Below, in other posts, I will report how we are doing, give links to mp3s when available, and (hopefully) gig dates as they arrive.

So, come on kids, let's put on a show! ;)
